Medium Antiaircraft:  twenty-eight 40mm Bofors guns - defense to 15,000 feet altitude (with each gun firing 60 two-pound projectiles per minute, the 40mm battery could loft a ton of antiaircraft "flak" into the sky in 35 seconds)
Light Antiaircraft:  sixteen 20mm Oerlikon guns - close range defense

Main Side Belt:  1.1 to 3.5 inches (midship)
Deck Armor:  1.2 inches (maximum)
