Our Unattached Branches:
| A Kentucky Fulkerson Branch | |
The following is a message received in January 2004, with just a little editing to protect privacy. Let's see if we can help:
"My mother was Beulah Jane Fulkerson. She was born in Kentucky on Dec. 31,1915. Her father was James Benjamin FULKERSON. Her mother was Lusettie WELLS. My mother married Marion ____ on Jan. 1,1937 in Junction City, Kansas, where they lived until their deaths....
Any help in finding more about my mother's (Fulkerson) side of family would be great. All I have is that she was from Kentucky and had two brothers and six sisters. Thank you."
In searching for this James Benjamin FULKERSON, I ran across two possible individuals at the Kentucky Vital Records web site, and based on later evidence narrowed the possibility to this one:
| JAMES B. FULKERSON | |

An Indiana obituary from 1997 contained some partial information to help solve the puzzle: It reported the death of William L. "Red" Fulkerson, 92, of Fairmount, who was born in Breckinridge, KY. Six of his sisters were Emma, Lorene, Marie, Daisy, Pauline....and Beulah.
Several weeks after this page was first posted, Shirley from the Cousins E-Mail Page contributed the following from the 1930 Census for Jefferson Township, Geary County, Kansas...for a James B. Fulkerson born about 1874:

Shirley also found a James FULKERSON in the 1900 Census for Breckenridge County, KY, connected to a WELLS family: "Also in 1900 - KY Breckenridge County - found a Lura FULKERSON with a son William L. FULKERSON who was born Apr 1881 age 19 single born KY. Then a couple houses down was a Nathan WELLS family with dau Mertie J age 19 born Feb 1884 (not sure of spelling of her name) and a Boarder James FULKERSON born Oct 1874 age 25 single born KY parents both born KY."
NEW INFORMATION, 2009:
Sept 2009: Obituary - "Junction City - Beulah J. Champ, 86, Junction City, died Sunday, Sept. 22, 2002, at her home. She was born Dec. 31, 1915, in Geary County, the daughter of James B. and Lusettie Wells Fulkerson. She lived most her life in Junction City." [Topeka Capital-Journal, Topeka, Shawnee Co, KS, Thursday, February 21, 2002, p. C4]
November 2009: Cemetery Records, Beatty Cemetery, Hancock Co., KY -
| Fulkerson James B. |
10/07/1873 |
08/09/1963 [sic?] |
| Fulkerson L. Settie |
06/14/1885 |
12/28/1968 |
[NOTE: If the actual dates for James were 7 October 1872 to 9 Aug 1962, this
would correspond with the KY death record that indicated he was 89 years old,
and would ALSO correspond with the 1880 Census listing for the one known
James B. FULKERSON in Kentucky.]
